When is the best time to climb in Oregon?

The climb itself is a long single day — start 1-3 AM from Timberline (1,829 m), summit by mid-morning (10-11 AM), descend by early afternoon to be off the mountain before sun softens snow and afternoon weather develops. The round-trip is 8 miles with 1,554 m of gain via the South Side standard route. You should plan: (1) Travel and rest day before, ideally sleeping at Timberline or nearby Hood River; (2) Climb day with 1-3 AM start; (3) Reserve day for weather contingency — Oregon Cascade weather is notoriously variable and the right call is often to wait 24 hours for the better window.
