The sharing rule

Share firsthand detail—not certainty you cannot support.

A useful expedition report says what happened to you on a specific route, during specific dates and conditions. It does not turn one experience into a universal claim about safety, operator quality or what another climber should do.

What makes a contribution useful

Four Things Future Climbers Rarely Get From Generic Articles

Exact dates

Conditions become far more useful when readers know when the trip actually happened.

Route context

The same mountain can feel completely different on another route or support model.

Operational surprises

Permit changes, pickup problems, water, crowding, gear issues and operator logistics are often the most valuable details.

Decision lessons

Turnaround, pacing, weather and team decisions can teach more than summit outcome alone.

1 · Core trip details

What did you climb?

2 · Conditions

What was the mountain actually like?

3 · Operator / logistics

Who supported the trip?

4 · Your report

Tell the story future climbers need.

5 · Photos & route references

Add evidence and visual context.

6 · Contributor & permission

What GSG should preserve

Dates, route, outcome, conditions, firsthand observations, operational surprises, direct lessons, operator context and the contributor’s own lived experience.

What editorial review should challenge

Universal safety conclusions, medical claims, unverified allegations, speculation about motives, exact current access claims that may have changed, or photos/content the contributor does not have rights to publish.

FAQ

Share Your Expedition Questions

Will my report be published automatically?

No. This version only creates a local draft and copyable submission package. A future connected workflow should require editorial review before publication.

What makes a trip report most useful?

Specific route, exact or approximate dates, conditions, timing, support model, operational surprises and clear lessons. Readers benefit more from concrete firsthand context than broad claims.

Can I share a report if I did not summit?

Yes. Turnarounds, weather changes, access problems and logistics failures can be especially valuable to other climbers.

Can I submit photos?

This prototype accepts photo-album or folder links and records photo notes. Any real publishing workflow should require confirmation that the contributor owns or has permission to share the images.

Can the Post-Climb Debrief prefill this page?

Yes. The “Load Post-Climb Debrief” button pulls overlapping fields from the browser-based debrief record on the same device when available.
