Hike Match: Which Hike Should You Do?
Tell Hike Match where, when and how hard you want to hike. The tool compares your preferences against a curated set of Global Summit Guide hikes and returns the strongest matches with a score, a plain-English reason and a direct planning link.
Find a Hike That Fits the Trip You Actually Have
Most hike finders start with location. Hike Match adds the constraints that usually decide whether a trail is realistic: month, mileage, vertical gain, hours available, difficulty, family needs and scenery.
The score is not a safety rating. It is a planning fit score. Current weather, closures, permits, snow, wildfire, river conditions and local advisories still control the real-world decision.

Hike Match is a planning tool, not a live trail-status service. Verify current official conditions before departure.
How Hike Match Scores Your Results
The tool rewards good fits and penalizes mismatches instead of hiding the logic.
| Input | Weight | How it affects the match |
|---|---|---|
| Region | 25% | Exact regional match gets a major boost; Anywhere removes the geographic penalty. |
| Month / season | 20% | Trails outside their normal recommended window receive a strong penalty. |
| Distance | 15% | Results near or below your maximum rank above hikes far beyond it. |
| Elevation gain | 15% | Large vertical mismatches are penalized even when mileage looks reasonable. |
| Time | 10% | Matches must realistically fit the hours or days you have. |
| Difficulty | 8% | The tool avoids recommending terrain above your chosen difficulty ceiling. |
| Kids | 4% | Family-only mode heavily filters out exposed and very strenuous routes. |
| Scenery | 3% | Your preferred visual feature breaks ties between otherwise similar hikes. |
What Hike Match Does Not Know
Weather / Snow / Fire
A seasonal match can still be a bad choice today. Check official forecasts, closures and trail reports.
Availability
Half Dome, Inca Trail and other capacity-controlled objectives may match perfectly but still be unavailable.
Altitude / Medical / Exposure
Distance and gain do not capture every reason a trail may be inappropriate for one person.
Technical Conditions
Snow and ice can turn a normal hiking route into a mountaineering objective.

How does Hike Match choose a hike?
It scores a curated GSG trail database against your region, month, distance, gain, time, difficulty, family needs and scenery preferences.
Does a high match score mean the trail is safe today?
No. It is a planning-fit score, not a live safety rating. Verify official current conditions.
Can Hike Match find family hikes?
Yes. Choose Kids-friendly only and the engine strongly favors lower-consequence family-tagged routes.
Can I search hikes by month?
Yes. Month carries significant weight so the tool favors normal seasonal windows.
Does Hike Match include every trail?
No. It intentionally starts with a curated GSG dataset so recommendations can be explained and linked to deeper planning pages.
Match the Trail to the Month, Time and Effort You Actually Have.
